Tuscaloosa, AL – University of Alabama President Robert Witt is switching jobs to become chancellor of the university's three-campus system.
Trustees named Witt chancellor of the University of Alabama System during a meeting Monday in Tuscaloosa. He replaces the retiring Malcolm Portera in overseeing university campuses in Birmingham, Huntsville and Tuscaloosa.
Witt has been president at the main campus in Tuscaloosa since 2003. The university has experience unprecedented growth during his tenure and now has more than 31,000 students.
A spokeswoman says a search committee will be formed to select a new president for the University of Alabama.
