Finances Threaten Delay In Prof's Ala. Murder Trial

Huntsville, AL – Finances are again threatening to delay a closely watched capital murder case in Alabama.

Defense lawyers are asking a judge in Huntsville to postpone the trial of professor Amy Bishop, who is accused of killing three colleagues and wounding three others during a faculty meeting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2010.

The defense says the case, now set for trial March 19, should be pushed back indefinitely because the state is refusing to pay for psychiatric testing that is vital since Bishop plans to use an insanity defense.

Bishop's lawyers want another round of tests conducted to help bolster their claims that psychiatric problems led to the mass shooting.

The stakes couldn't be higher for the defense since Bishop faces a potential death penalty in the shooting.
