Montgomery, AL – The organizers of the Selma to Montgomery march protesting Alabama's tough immigration law and voter ID laws nationwide say they don't plan on letting their demonstration end with the march on Friday.
After walking 54 miles over the last week, demonstrators rallied at the foot of the Alabama Capitol, spilling out into the streets below.
The Rev. Al Sharpton, whose National Action Network helped organize the march, says his group plans to organize marches in other states with voter ID laws. He says they will also challenge the laws in court and visit churches to help citizens obtain photo ID in order to vote.
John Rankin, who walked in the 1965 Selma to Montgomery march that led to the Voting Rights Act, says the modern struggle is just getting started.
