Alabama Public Radio

This week's edition of From the Top comes from the Moody Concert Hall at University of Alabama.

The repertoire includes violinist Heather Engebretson, age 14 from Tuscaloosa, playing Kreisler's "Praeludium and Allegro."

Mezzo-soprano Mary Thomas, a 16-year old from Auburn, sings "Che far? senza Euridice?" from Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice.

Violinists Karis (17), Kiemel (15) and Kolson (13) Lamb, from Tuscaloosa, end the show with a performance of McLean's "Csardas."

From The Top features the best young classical musicians and can be heard on Alabama Public Radio every Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. It also airs on nearly 250 stations across the country.

NBC's "Today" described the program as, "Exquisite musical performances, punctuated with off-beat interviews and campy skits. This is classy reality programming. And you don't have to love classical music to love From the Top."

From the Top is supported through the generous contributions of individuals and foundations as well as public radio stations.

It is also made possible through grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and The PRI Program Fund whose contributors include Mr. and Mrs. J. Irwin Miller.

From the Top radio program is produced in association with WGBH Radio Boston and New England Conservatory of Music, its home and education partner.

From the Top is distributed by Public Radio International.
