OPHIRA EISENBERG, HOST:
Let's welcome our next two contestants, Eden Gauteron and Kiki Turner to the stage.
(APPLAUSE)
EISENBERG: Eden, you play in a band called Dino's House Party. Why did you name the band that?
EDEN GAUTERON: It's the name of a bar that all the bartenders were Russian women wearing bikinis.
EISENBERG: Oh, what a delightful place.
(LAUGHTER)
EISENBERG: Kiki, I hear you're a fan of celebrity gossip.
KIKI TURNER: I am a fan of celebrity gossip.
(LAUGHTER)
EISENBERG: Do you have a favorite person to follow?
TURNER: No. I like just to find out secrets from gossip forums.
EISENBERG: Oh.
TURNER: Yeah.
EISENBERG: I'll mine you for details later.
TURNER: Okay.
EISENBERG: Okay.
TURNER: Yeah.
EISENBERG: All right, Julian, what are we going to put these two through?
JULIAN VELARD: All right, before the dawn of Xbox, a jack in the box provided hours of mind-numbing entertainment. You wound the lever, and your reward for ten seconds of manual labor was seeing a plastic clown jump out of the box to the sounds of "Pop Goes the Weasel."
Well, we've decided to spice it up by replacing the clown with things that sound like the word weasel. I'll play the song and you tell me who or what is about to pop out. For example, if I sang...
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
VELARD: He's got a type of fuel in name, this bald and deep voice actor. He races fast cars furiously.
You would say.
TURNER: Pop goes Vin Diesel.
(APPLAUSE)
EISENBERG: That's right.
VELARD: That was an example. It doesn't count as a point, but very well done.
TURNER: I know.
EISENBERG: That's well done. And you have to sing it. That is correct.
TURNER: Okay.
EISENBERG: Contestants, you have to sing it. And there will be a follow-up question, which I will ask you after each song, that either of you can ring in for. All right, Julian, take it away.
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
VELARD: You punch your friend whenever you see this famous German auto. In Disney films, its name is Herbie.
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
TURNER: Pop goes the beetle.
VELARD: I'm sorry.
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
TURNER: Pop goes the beetle.
EISENBERG: There you go. That is correct, Kiki.
(APPLAUSE)
EISENBERG: What talk show host gave away 275 VW Beetles on her final "favorite things" show in 2011?
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
EISENBERG: Eden?
GAUTERON: Oprah.
EISENBERG: Oprah is correct.
(APPLAUSE)
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
VELARD: In several movies, you can see this Austin Powers' villain. His tiny clone is Mini Me.
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
(APPLAUSE)
TURNER: Pop goes Dr. Evil.
EISENBERG: Kiki.
(APPLAUSE)
EISENBERG: Beautiful. And from the Austin Powers' movies, the character of Dr. Evil is reportedly based on what television producer who was Mike Myers' boss at "Saturday Night Live."
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
EISENBERG: Eden?
GAUTERON: Loren Michaels.
EISENBERG: That is correct.
(APPLAUSE)
EISENBERG: I like how this is going. You do one. You do the other. You guys are very back and forth. You're working together, well done.
(LAUGHTER)
EISENBERG: They just gave each other a fist bump.
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
VELARD: In "House of Lies" in drunk history, you'll see this acclaimed actor. He's Basher Tarr in "Ocean's 13."
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
EISENBERG: Eden?
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
GAUTERON: George Clooney.
(LAUGHTER)
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
GAUTERON: Pop goes Don Cheadle.
VELARD: Yes.
(APPLAUSE)
EISENBERG: In "Iron Man 2," Don Cheadle plays Tony Stark's good friend Jim Rhodes, who later dons an Iron Man suit as the character War Machine. Cheadle actually replaced what other acclaimed actor, who played Rhodes in the first movie?
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
EISENBERG: Eden?
GAUTERON: The guy from "Hustle and Flow."
(LAUGHTER)
EISENBERG: Okay, I'm going to need a name.
VELARD: That's good.
EISENBERG: I like that you gave me a trivia question back.
(LAUGHTER)
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
EISENBERG: Kiki?
TURNER: Terrence Howard.
EISENBERG: Terrence Howard is correct.
VELARD: Yes.
(APPLAUSE)
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
VELARD: Go get an MMR vaccine and you won't catch rubella or spots from this contagious disease.
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
EISENBERG: Kiki?
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
TURNER: Pop goes the measles.
EISENBERG: Oh, that is beautiful.
(APPLAUSE)
EISENBERG: What last name is shared by the English doctor who saved countless lives with his ingenious small pox vaccine and also Khloe Kardashian's step dad.
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
EISENBERG: Kiki?
TURNER: Jenner.
EISENBERG: Jenner is correct.
(APPLAUSE)
EISENBERG: That celebrity knowledge is coming into, yeah, good use.
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
VELARD: For a world's fair back in the 60s, they built this famous tower. It sits above a rainy city.
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
EISENBERG: Eden?
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
GAUTERON: What is the Sears - pop goes the Sears Tower.
(LAUGHTER)
EISENBERG: Interesting answer, but I'm sorry. That is incorrect. Let's hear it again.
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
VELARD: For a world's fair back in the 60s, they built this...
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
TURNER: Pop goes the needle. No, that's in Seattle.
(LAUGHTER)
EISENBERG: I'm going to consider it a draw. Let's throw it out there. Anyone know?
(SOUNDBITE OF AUDIENCE YELLING)
EISENBERG: Space Needle. You were heading in the right direction, but then you were against it, so I couldn't give you the point.
TURNER: I really thought that was in Seattle.
(LAUGHTER)
TURNER: Were we talking about Chicago?
EISENBERG: No, that was just in your head. We were totally talking about Seattle.
TURNER: Oh, okay, yeah, you said Windy City.
EISENBERG: Rainy city.
TURNER: Well, darn.
(LAUGHTER)
EISENBERG: That's okay. When it was built, the Space Needle was the tallest observation tower west of the Mississippi River. What Las Vegas monstrosity now holds that record, standing over 1,100 feet tall?
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
EISENBERG: Eden?
GAUTERON: Luxor.
EISENBERG: No, I'm sorry. That is incorrect. Kiki, do you have an answer?
TURNER: I was in Vegas and I didn't see anything taller than Excalibur, but that - no, I don't know.
EISENBERG: Does anyone out there know?
(SOUNDBITE OF AUDIENCE YELLING)
EISENBERG: Stratosphere. Yeah, the Stratosphere. You can jump, you can do freefall off the Stratosphere, so you have training, for when you lose all your money, how to jump.
(LAUGHTER)
EISENBERG: I think this is our final one.
GAUTERON: Thank god.
(LAUGHTER)
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
VELARD: Around holidays, you surely will see this cartoon dog named Snoopy. But can you tell me what is his breed?
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
EISENBERG: Eden?
(SOUNDBITE OF SINGING)
GAUTERON: Pop goes the beagle.
EISENBERG: That is correct.
(APPLAUSE)
EISENBERG: As Snoop Dogg, Calvin Broadus produced such rap albums as "The Doggfather" and "Doggumentary." But in 2012, he produced a reggae album under what new stage name?
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
EISENBERG: Kiki?
TURNER: That would be Snoop Lion.
EISENBERG: Snoop Lion is correct.
(APPLAUSE)
EISENBERG: Great match. Julian, you were such a trooper in this whole thing.
VELARD: Thank you. Thank you.
(APPLAUSE)
EISENBERG: And so were our contestants. Eden, thank you so much. Kiki is our winner of this round and will be moving on to our Ask Me One More final showdown.
(APPLAUSE)
EISENBERG: Congratulations to you both. Thank you for playing. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
