Tuscaloosa, Alabama – On April 27th, 2011, an EF-4 tornado devastated the town of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Over fifty residents of the city were killed, and more than two hundred perished across the State. Power outages throughout the region meant many people couldn't hear reports on television. The challenge for the news team at Alabama Public Radio was to provide in-depth coverage on the aftermath, while at the same time, being the only source of rescue and recovery information for residents impacted by the storms.
