Florence man charged after throwing paint on confederate monument

Change.org

A Florence man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly throwing paint on a confederate monument.

A deputy reportedly saw Seth Jones Robinson, 20, splash paint on the monument outside of the Lauterdale County Courthouse before running away. Robinson was chased for several blocks and then taken into custody. He was charged with second-degree trespassing, third-degree criminal mischief, desecration of a venerated object and attempting to elude.

The monument was heavily protested by racial justice groups last year, leading the Florence City Council to vote to ask the state for permission to move the memorial last October.
