Tuscaloosa County to Vote on Employee Pay Raises

Tuscaloosa County employees should soon know if they can expect a pay raise in the coming year.

The Tuscaloosa News reports (http://bit.ly/St1b7O ) that county commissioners are scheduled to take up the pay raise in their vote Wednesday on an $84.7 million budget for fiscal 2013.

Bill Lamb, the county's accounting manager, says the proposed budget reflects a roughly 2 percent spending increase over the last fiscal year. He says officials felt comfortable spending a little more because sales taxes and property taxes have been bringing in more revenues than expected.

Several county agencies including the public library would receive their first budget increases in years under the proposal.

If approved, the new budget will take effect immediately. The 2013 fiscal year begins Monday.
