Muslims in east Alabama are planning to open a free health care clinic to serve people who lack medical insurance in Calhoun County.
The Anniston Star (http://bit.ly/Q6A4xe ) reports that the Anniston Islamic Center plans to begin operating the Salam Free Clinic next month in Anniston.
Abdul Kazi is president of the center, and he is also an ophthalmologist who treats eye diseases. He says the clinic has been in the planning stages for two years.
Kazi says equipment for the clinic was donated, and it will initially have eight volunteer physicians from the Islamic Center.
Kazi says the clinic is for everyone, not just Muslims.
Some Christian churches operate similar clinics for the uninsured in Alabama.
