BLOCK SEATING CAUSES STUDENT CONFLICT

This is an assignment for JN 325, taught by Dr. George Daniels and APR news director Pat Duggins

BLOCK SEATING CAUSES STUDENT CONFLICT

The block seating section is causing tensions to run high at home football games between multiple campus organizations. APR’s Kristen Koeller reports on the difficulties.

Block seating has been a tradition at home football games for decades. Student organizations may apply for a spot through the Student Government Association. All student organizations are eligible to apply. This includes Greek-affiliated and non-Greek affiliated. The selection process this year includes the University of Alabama’s Board of Governors to make the final decision. The application itself requires four essays and other information like overall GPA and community service hours. The problem with block seating this year is the debate on whether or not it still exists. Several organizations are reportedly fighting on the division of the sections. Other students mistakenly sitting in the wrong section experienced aggressive behavior from the organizations at the Ole Miss home game. The SGA is now debating whether or not to continue block seating. Kristen Koeller, APR News in Tuscaloosa.
