Montgomery – Southern Union State Community College president Susan Salatto was fired Thursday in the wake of a scathing report about her leadership. But supporters say the case is far from closed.
Mary Bruce Ogles is an assistant executive secretary of the Alabama Education Association.
She and Salatto's attorney William Patty say her firing violates the state's Fair Dismissal Act and is invalid.
They say Salatto was entitled to a hearing before the board to plead her case.
Salatto has worked for the college system for 33 years and spent many of them at Southern Union where she served as president for 1 1/2 years.
The report was produced by a five-member committee that was dispatched to the Wadley school after the department received anonymous tips about problems in August.
It lists 20 findings including widespread nepotism, racial discrimination, apparent bid law violations, and unacceptably limited access to campus resources like the library and cafeteria.
