Pelham, AL – Alabama health officials are investigating a report that 68 children and one adult became ill after a visit to Oak Mountain State Park.
The group says those who became ill swam in a lake at the park last week.
Alabama Department of Public Health epidemiologist Sherri Davidson said Sunday that the department received the information about the sick children Saturday night and was in the process of gathering more information.
Park superintendent Vicky Nelson says that more than 15,000 people other than the group reporting the illness have visited the park this season, and none reported becoming sick.
Members and an official with the Everest Academy, the home schooling group that reported the problem, say they don't believe the illnesses are food-related after members compared notes.
