Montgomery, AL – Alabama's budgets for the next fiscal year are almost complete. The House has approved a one-point-two billion dollar General Fund budget. It cuts funding to most state agencies by about 18 percent. Governor Bob Riley returned the budget to legislators late yesterday after suggesting several minor changes. The House approved the revision and sent the budget to the Senate. Senators are expected to consider it today. The Senate already passed a four-point-two billion dollars education budget that allows teachers to retain their jobs. But it does cut money for textbooks. Governor Riley has said he may make several changes and return the education budget to lawmakers today.
