More Prisoners Return

By Alabama Public Radio

Alabama – Alabama prison officials have transferred more than 200 male inmates back into state facilities from a private prison in Mississippi. Another 156 inmates are due back by the end of the week.
The state began bringing the prisoners back from a prison in Tutwiler, Mississippi, on January 19th. By Monday, 223 inmates had been transferred. A prison spokesperson says the state plans to return the remaining 990 male inmates by March 12th.
Last year, Alabama sent more than 14-hundred male inmates and about 300 female inmates to out-of-state prisons to comply with a court order to reduce overcrowding.
More than 50 of the female inmates have returned so far.
