Mobile, AL – The Alabama Education Association is hoping to deter other school systems from following Mobile County's example. About 300 county school employees may be transferred out of five low-performing schools. The system is the only one in the state to suggest reorganizing low-scoring schools by releasing principals, teachers and other employees. Current employees would be able to reapply for their jobs, but they would have to compete with other candidates. Joe Reed, the A-E-A's associate executive secretary, says his group will try to ensure each Mobile County teacher receives a hearing. He says he hopes the state's 129 other school systems do not try something similar.
