Washington, DC – The federal government will maintain penalty tariffs on shrimp imports from Brazil, Ecuador, India and Thailand. The Commerce Department is supporting an earlier ruling that the four countries sold shrimp in the U-S at unfairly low prices. That's known as dumping. U-S shrimp producers are please with the ruling. They have maintained that the cheaper imports are destroying the domestic shrimp industry. But importers are criticizing the decision, saying the penalty tariffs will drive up food costs.
