Holmes Issues Challenge on Gay Marriage

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – State Representative Alvin Holmes is now offering five thousand dollars to anyone who can show him a Bible verse. But, he says it must be one that specifically defines marriage as being between a man and a woman. He initially offered 700 dollars earlier this week during debate in the House. Lawmakers were considering a proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages in the state. Holmes offered the money to anyone who could find a Bible verse concerning the issue. Several dozen people have already called the state House offering particular Bible verses. But Holmes says no one yet has shown him a verse that specifically says marriage is between a man and a woman.
