Former Congressman Tom Bevill Has Died

Jasper, AL – Former Alabama Congressman Tom Bevill has died. He was 84 years old. A spokesperson at Bevill's law offices in Jasper confirmed his death Monday. Bevill graduated from Walker County High School in 1939 and received business and law degrees from the University of Alabama. He served in Europe during World War Two and set up his law practice in Jasper. Bevill was also a Democrat who was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 1958. He won a second term in 1962. Bevill was later elected to the U-S House of Representatives in 1967 and retired in 1997 after 30 years representing what is now Alabama's fourth congressional district. Bevill was inducted into the Alabama Academy of Honor in 1986.
