Montgomery, AL – The legislature was busy Wednesday on its first full day of the special session. The House Committee on Municipal and County Government passed a bill to restrict the use of eminent domain. That's the power cities and counties have to condemn property for development. The bill won't allow governments to use eminent domain to condemn private property to make way for a private development. Representative Richard Lindsey sponsors the bill and says it will become law as soon as it gets legislative approval. He says he believes it addresses the concerns of residents who were upset by a recent U-S Supreme Court ruling that governments could take land for private development.
