Anniston, AL – Officials at Fort McClellan expect dorm rooms at the former Army base to be ready for residents by Wednesday. However, it may be a while before Hurricane Katrina victims can move in. City Manager George Monk and others involved in the project say the speed of the McClellan preparations has sometimes outpaced planning by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Monk says he was informed Saturday that the transition from current housing to McClellan will be handled by FEMA rather than by city officials or the Red Cross.
