Crumpler Trial Continues in Birmingham

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Former assistant controller Emery Harris testified Tuesday that it was possible Crumpler didn't know about the accounting scheme even though he attended ``family meetings'' where the fraud was discussed. Crumpler controlled the outpatient division at HealthSouth before becoming chief financial officer of Source Medical Solutions Incorporated, which was a spin-off of the medical services chain. Fired HealthSouth founder and C-E-O Richard Scrushy was acquitted in June of all charges in the fraud, but fifteen former HealthSouth executives pleaded guilty in the scheme. Crumpler is charged with one count of conspiracy and one count of lying to auditors. He has pleaded not guilty.
