Montgomery, AL – The state legislature is considering five separate plans to cut state income taxes. But not one of them has enough momentum to survive a committee vote. Lawmakers can't agree whether every taxpayer should get a break or whether wealthier taxpayers should pay more to make up for a tax cut for low-income workers. A legislative committee will begin looking at the plans tomorrow morning in the House chamber. There is general agreement about one thing, though. Legislators agree with efforts to end the state's practice of making poor families pay income taxes once they earn about four thousand dollars. That's the lowest in the nation.
