House Could Consider Tax Threshold Bill

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Lawmakers in the state House are expected to consider a bill Thursday that would raise Alabama's income tax threshold. A slightly different version passed the Senate Wednesday night, so it goes back over to the House for final approval. The bill would change the level at which a family of four must begin paying state income taxes. Right now, a family starts paying taxes on just 46-hundred dollars of earned income. It's one of the lowest thresholds in the country. The current bill would raise that amount to 12-thousand-600 dollars.
