Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Forestry Commission is undergoing some changes. The state will be getting a new state forester and assistant forester after 13 years with the same leadership team. State Forester Timothy Boyce says he plans to retire in July of next year. Assistant Forester Richard Cumbie retired in April. At its meeting today, Forestry Commission Chairman Don Heath said he wants to hire a new forester before Boyce retires, and he suggested Boyce move to the assistant position until his retirement. Boyce says he's willing to make the change if he can maintain his salary. The commission agreed to ask the governor and the state Personnel Board to approve the request.
