Mobile, AL – Conoco-Phillips is informing federal regulatory officials that it is withdrawing its plans to build a liquefied natural gas terminal south of Dauphin Island. Governor Bob Riley says the company reached its decision after he told Conoco-Phillips he would likely not allow the project. Environmental and conservation groups had been asking Riley to reject the project. They said the terminal could cause extensive harm to gulf fisheries and marine life. Federal officials say such a system requires 136 million to 177 million gallons of seawater per day to operate.
