Progress Made in Tri-State Water Dispute

By Alabama Public Radio

Undated, AL – The state's chief deputy attorney general says there's progress in negotiations among Alabama, Florida and Georgia. The three states are involved in a water-sharing dispute concerning the Chattahoochee River. Keith Miller says the negotiations are showing positive signs. U-S- District Judge Karon Bowdre issued an order this week to reduce the amount of river water flowing into Florida from six-thousand-750 cubic feet per second to six-thousand-250. She issued the order after a teleconference with attorneys. Alabama, Florida and Georgia have been trying to determine how much water to send down the Chattahoochee River to protect freshwater mussels in a Florida river. But the states also are trying to make sure there's enough water upstream for Alabama and Georgia.
