Anniston AL – A newly proposed environmental waste dump is raising public concerns about possible health hazards around the Anniston-area. Solutia Incorporated will begin dumping at a new site on company property in about three weeks, as part of an agreement the company reached about cleaning up PCB's ... or polchloronated biphenyls ... in the area. PCB's are a suspected cancer-causing agent. City Councilman Ben Little says he wants to block dumping at the landfill near Monsanto Road, though the council delayed a vote on that motion. Pam Scully, the U-S Environmental Protection Agency's manager of the cleanup effort says residents were told about the landfill in March 2005. However, the actual site for the landfill wasn't approved until recently. Scully says residents also have been contacted recently about the plan.
