Baxley Wants Annual Appraisals to End

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Lucy Baxley wants the annual property tax reappraisals to end. During the Democratic primary, her position was that the Legislature should approve a constitutional amendment that would allow voters to determine the issue. But now that she's in the general election campaign, she has taken a stronger position and is criticizing Governor Bob Riley's interpretation of state law. Riley says he believes state law requires annual reappraisals. County tax officials reappraised property every four years to determine its new value before the governor made the change.
