Montgomery, AL – Women 18 and older will soon be able to purchase the morning after pill without a doctor's prescription. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced yesterday (Thursday) that the drug, marketed as Plan B, will be available in pharmacies by the end of the year. Dr. Thomas Miller is Alabama's State Health Officer for Personal and Community Health. He spoke with APR reporter Gina Smith yesterday afternoon about what the decision means for women in Alabama.
OUTRO: Dr. Miller says he's not yet aware whether pharmacies in the state will be required to sell the drug, or if they will be able to refuse to sell Plan B based on moral grounds.
