Tuscaloosa, AL – In August of 2004, as part of an effort to protect Lake Tuscaloosa from pollution, the city of Tuscaloosa passed an ordinance requiring residents within 1-mile of the lake's shoreline to register their septic tanks for regular inspection and maintenance. The registration has been slow, and deadlines have been extended again and again and again. Some residents say they have no plans to sign up -- ever. Alabama Public Radio's Brett Tannehill reports.
