Ship Captian Goes on Trial

By Associated Press

Mobile, AL – A ship captain involved in a fatal crane accident at the Alabama State Port Authority on March second goes on trial today (Wednesday) in Mobile federal court. 58-year-old Wolfgang Schroder, a German native who lives in Ireland, entered a not guilty plea in mid-May on a criminal complaint charging him with misconduct or neglect. The ship struck a 196-foot-high skycrane, which toppled, killing electrician Shawn Jacobs, who was working on the crane.
