Copper Thieves Hit Salvation Army

By Associated Press

Bessemer, AL – The Salvation Army's Bessemer Corps Community Center was robbed Friday evening. Police said thieves stole copper tubing and coils on two air conditioner units - making them inoperable. The air conditioners were behind a locked, chain-link fence.

Bessemer Police said they had no leads.

Major John Carter said he's upset by the theft. He said the incident hurts the organization's mission and the people we serve - the less fortunate.

Carter, the Birmingham area commander, said the Salvation Army needs a comfortable and stable environment to operate their programs.
