Scottsboro Soldier Dies in Iraq

Scottsboro AL – A 42-year-old soldier based at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, has died of injuries from a non-combat-realted incident in Iraq, according to a Defense Department statement.

The statement issued yesterday (Sunday) identified the soldier as Command Sgt. Major Jonathan M. Lankford of Scottsboro. The Pentagon said he died Saturday in Baghdad.

The statement contained no other details.

Lankford was assigned to the 79th Ordnance Battalion at the San Antonio-area Army post.
