Tuscaloosa AL – A US Supreme Court decision to consider a challenge to lethal injection procedures in Kentucky does not affect Thursday's pending execution of Tommy Arthur in Alabama.
Arthur was convicted in a murder for hire scheme and had initially filed an appeal requesting the introduction of new DNA evidence into his case. He also may have filed an appeal challenging the constitutionality of the lethal injection process.
However, prison officials and the Attorney General's office say they've received no word that the execution would not proceed. Arthur is scheduled to die Thursday at 6 pm at Holman Correctional Facility, the location of Alabama death row.
