Birmingham, AL – Property tax referendums are on the ballot today in two communities in southern Jefferson County. The Indian Ford and Eastern Valley volunteer fire departments need funding.
Indian Ford firefighters say they are nearly broke because not enough homeowners are paying their voluntary dues. Its a similar situation in Eastern Valley. The department is still on budget, but officials say they need more resources to plan for the hundreds of new homes going up in their community.
The polls are open until 7 p.m. at the community center on Walnut Street in Bessemer.
