Congression Runoff Leaves GOP Winners Low On Cash

Washington, D.C. – The winners of Alabama's Republican congressional runoffs are waking up to some sobering financial news.

State Rep. Jay Love of Montgomery and insurance executive Wayne Parker of Huntsville spent so heavily during the primary that their Democratic opponents have three or four times as much cash heading into the general election.

The latest campaign finance reports show that with just a few months to go until November, Love and Parker each had less than $100,000 in the bank as of June 30.

Parker's opponent, state Sen. Parker Griffith of Huntsville, had about $350,000. Love's opponent, Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright, had about $280,000.

Love spent nearly $1 million in his hard-fought primary race against Republican state Sen. Harri Anne Smith.
