Birmingham, AL – The sentencing of former Southern Union State Community College interim president Joanne Jordan has been postponed.
Jordan was scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday. She pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice for lying to a grand jury probing Alabama's two-year college system.
She also admitted guilt for a state ethics charge related to the federal charge.
The federal obstruction charge could bring a penalty of no more than 10 years in prison and fines of $250,000, or both.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Birmingham said the sentencing was postponed until December.
Jordan's attorney, Robert Harwood of Tuscaloosa, said he did not know why the date was changed but said he supports the move.
