Georgia-Alabama Bike Path To Be Longest In Nation

Atlanta, AL – The grand opening of the completed Silver Comet Trail will kick off with a shrimp boil in a farmer's cornfield at the Georgia-Alabama state line.

The PATH Foundation will host the Sept. 27 party 61.5 miles into the recently completed trail that starts in Smyrna and now links with the Chief Ladiga trail and continues to Anniston, Ala.

Once the trail opens, cyclists will be able to ride the trail for 95.5 miles from Smyrna to Anniston. PATH executive director Ed McBrayer said that's 17 miles longer than the next longest bike path in the country, which is in Idaho.

The last part of the connecting section was paved last month, but landscaping and benches are still being added.
