Riley Appoints New DHR Commissioner

Montgomery, AL – Gov. Bob Riley has appointed Nancy Buckner as commissioner of the Alabama Department of Human Resources to replace Page Walley, who left to work for a national foundation.

Buckner, whose appointment was announced Tuesday, is currently assistant director of the Talladega County DHR, where she has served since 1993. She has also served by special appointment as interim director of the Calhoun County DHR and child welfare administrator for the St. Clair County DHR.

Buckner also served as the legislative liaison for the state agency.

Buckner will hold the title of acting commissioner starting Sept. 15 until the seven-member DHR board, which includes Riley as its chairman, confirms the appointment.

Walley, who became DHR commissioner in December 2003, left Sept.1 to become managing director with Casey Family Programs.
