Summerdale, AL – Summerdale Peanut Co. in coastal Alabama is recalling about 150 bags of Baldwin County Fried Peanuts supplied by a Georgia firm at the center of a salmonella investigation.
Company spokesman Joseph A. Parker said in a statement Wednesday the peanuts, packaged in 10-ounce cellophane bags, were supplied by the Peanut Corp. of America in Blakely, Ga., where products have tested positive for salmonella.
The Baldwin County Fried Peanuts packages were distributed to retailers in south Alabama between June 30 and Dec. 22, 2008.
The Summerdale firm has not received any consumer reports of illness associated with its products and Alabama peanuts are not affected, the statement said.
The recall was taken as a precaution because the Georgia firm has recalled peanuts used in its 10-ounce fried peanuts product.
