Brawl Erupts At Ala. Prep Basketball Game

Montgomery, AL – The Valley and Carver-Montgomery high school boys basketball teams have been kicked out of the state playoffs after a brawl on the court that escalated into the stands.

The Alabama High School Athletic Association placed both programs on restrictive probation on Wednesday, barring them from this postseason.

The fight occurred Tuesday during the fourth quarter of the Class 5A regional semifinal game after a Valley player was called for a foul.

Alabama State University was hosting the regional. University spokesman Kenneth Mullinax said 11 juveniles were arrested on a variety of charges, including assault.

AHSAA Executive Director Steve Savarese said the investigation is ongoing and additional penalties will be assessed.

Carver was leading 52-37 at the time. Talladega High School will advance because of the double forfeit.
