Montgomery, AL – A state senator says she's preparing legislation to expand the state parole board and make sure at least one position is held by a woman.
Democratic state Sen. Linda Coleman of Birmingham said Wednesday she's concerned that the three-member board appointed by Republican Gov. Bob Riley is all male.
Coleman said she is preparing a bill for the next session of the Legislature that would expand the board to five seats and mandate that at least one member must be a woman. Coleman said no one on the all-male board can understand what a woman goes through after being incarcerated.
