Tuscaloosa, AL – Alabama native and writer Gin Phillips grew up in Montgomery and today calls Birmingham home. After years of writing magazine pieces she got her first book "The Well and the Mine" published. The book has garnered mostly positive reviews and this past March won the Barnes and Noble Discover Prize for fiction. The award recognizes authors that might get lost in a saturated marketplace. I recently spoke with Gin about her book and what the prize means to her.

You can hear Don Noble review "The Well and the Mine" here.
