Florala, AL – Another south Alabama town is considering jumping on the crowded bingo bandwagon even though Gov. Bob Riley's gambling task force is trying to shut down electronic bingo games at Country Crossing in Dothan.
The city council in Florala in Covington County voted Monday to set minimum standards for a bingo facility to open in the city that is on the Alabama-Florida line.
But Attorney General Troy King has written a letter to Florala city attorney Wes Laird warning that a constitutional amendment allowing bingo in Covington County only allows bingo played on paper cards - not electronic games.
Mayor Robert Williamson said Friday the city views King's letter as informational and will continue to consider bingo as a possible economic development tool for the city.
