Sinkhole Repairs To Close Stretch Of I-65 In Ala.

Hartselle, AL – The Alabama Department of Transportation says it will close a 16-mile stretch of Interstate 65 north while workers repair a sinkhole.

The closure begins at 9 a.m. Thursday. The sinkhole is in the outside northbound lane at mile marker 329.9 between Hartselle and Priceville.

Northbound traffic will detour at exit 318 at Vinemont/Lacon onto U.S. 31. Motorists will travel through Falkville, Hartselle and Decatur to Alabama 67 and back onto I-65 north at exit 334 at Decatur-Priceville.

Johnny Harris, an engineer with the department, says the detour will extend travel by about nine miles.

Harris says he has no idea how long the project will take. He says officials also will address a roadway depression a few hundred feet farther north in the same lane as a separate project.
