Montgomery, AL – State education officials have tentatively approved the sale of bonds for the $8.4 million renovation of a building in Decatur to house a fine-arts program between Athens State University and Calhoun Community College.
The board Thursday also gave tentative approval for a new bachelor of arts degree in art at Athens State.
Renovation of the building is being financed using $3.2 million in bonds issued by the state school board, $3.2 million from Calhoun, $800,000 from Athens State and $800,000 each from the City of Decatur and Morgan County Commission.
The degree would be offered with options in computer graphics, painting and drawing and licensure to teach.
The board will take final votes on all of the issues discussed today at its June 24 meeting.
