Dozen Ala. Lawmakers Refuse Free Iron Bowl Tickets

Montgomery, AL – A Montgomery legislator is being joined by other Alabama lawmakers in refusing to take free tickets to the Iron Bowl, a move praised by a Birmingham man crusading to stop the practice.

State Rep. Alvin Holmes, a veteran Democrat, announced Tuesday he asked that his two free tickets and parking pass be given to soldiers wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan. Jim Metrock, president of Obligation, Inc., said nearly a dozen others have given him commitments not to accept the free tickets to the Auburn-Alabama game.

The Huntsville Times reported Wednesday that in 2007 Alabama and Auburn gave away more than $100,000 in free tickets to legislators and appointed officials, mainly members of Gov. Bob Riley's administration.
