Riley's Ethics Bill Changing Montgomery Lobbying

Tuscaloosa, AL – The governor's proposed ethics legislation would curtail lavish lobbying for government officials, including an end to free tickets to the Iron Bowl and fancy dinners in white tablecloth restaurants.

Gov. Bob Riley's bill limits gifts, including meals and entertainment, for public officials and employees from one source to $25 on one occasion and $100 in a year.

Republican Sen. Bryan Taylor, who helped write the bill, says it ends extravagant receptions for legislators. It would also stop free tickets to the Auburn-Alabama game because they exceed $25.

The bill will be up for consideration when the special session begins Wednesday. It has been a frequent topic at the Legislature's orientation session in Tuscaloosa.
