Mobile Home Sales Rise In Decatur, Ala.

Decatur, AL – Mobile home dealers say sales have increased dramatically in Decatur since hundreds of homeowners were displaced by the April 27 tornado outbreak, reversing an industry trend.

Randy's Home Center owner David Gillespie says he has sold more than 30 homes since the storms. He says more than half were sold to displaced families.

Gillespie says the company has sold all units for the price they were listed at before the storms.

Gillespie says many customers are looking for temporary, affordable alternatives to staying in motels so they can live on their property while they clean up and rebuild. He's leased several units to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for use in its temporary housing program.

Tim Milam, general manager of Clayton Homes, says he's sold seven homes to storm victims.
