Grants To Help Alabama Increase Exports

Montgomery, AL – Alabama has won two grants totaling more than $240,000 that Gov. Robert Bentley says will be used to increase exports and create jobs.

The governor and Alabama Development Office Director Greg Canfield say Alabama is getting $100,000 from the Appalachian Regional Commission that is designed to increase the number of businesses exporting. Alabama is also getting $140,600 from the U.S. Small Business Administration to focus on exports by small and medium-sized businesses in Alabama.

Canfield says the grants are important because companies that export create jobs faster than those that don't. Canfield's agency is administering the grants.

Alabama had $15.5 billion in international trade in 2010. That was a 25 percent increase over 2009.
